The faculty and staff at Rockridge High School has selected Makynzii Murley as the April Student of the Month. Makynzii is a senior at Rockridge High School and is the daughter of Jason & Diana Murley of Andalusia.
Makynzii reports that her favorite class this year is Spanish with Mrs. Carter. She is an Illinois State Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. Makynzii runs Track and Cross Country for the Rockets and is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Outside of school, Makynzii and her family attend the Westside Assembly of God Church in Davenport. Makynzii volunteers as a tutor for kids at her church and serves as a tech worker for Sunday services. She is employed at Happy Joe’s and reports she enjoys running, baking, watching movies, listening to music, writing, playing instruments, and spending time with family and friends.
Her teachers had the following things to say in support of her nomination:
• Cross Country Coach and Yearbook Adviser Ms. Tricia Graves said, “Makynzii is a very motivated student and a young lady of high character. She served as a leader and role model on her Cross Country team and always supported those around her. Makynzii is one of those students who will be successful no matter what she chooses to pursue in her future because she has strong convictions and is willing to work hard to achieve her goals.”
• Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Brandee Neece stated, “Makynzii is constantly inside of the Rocket Closet working on items in there. Recently, she played an important role in the NHS Easter Egg Hunt. In the classroom, Makynzii is very reserved and respectful and her grades are top-notch. Whether she is working in group activities or by herself, Makynzii strives for perfection in most of the things that she does. When she engages in dialogue, she selects her words carefully and is concise in her message. Through her church, she is very involved in volunteering her time for various non-profit organizations as well.”
• Math Teacher & NHS Adviser Mrs. Tami Clarke added, “Makynzii is a reliable student who volunteers her time to help others. As the advisor of NHS, I have witnessed her great character and dependability and feel she would be a good candidate for student of the month.”
Makynzii plans to attend Cornell College next year to double major in Spanish and Creative Writing. She plans to pursue a career as a Spanish Translator.

Congratulations to the 2024 Prom Royalty: Junior Princess Charlie Edwards & Prince Alex Geier and Senior Queen Lexi Carter & King Colin Huntley.

Rockridge Student Project Leads to John Deere Donation
Rockridge senior Grady Craver is a second-year student in the Welding Program at the Area Career Center. He participates in a Welding Internship at John Deere as part of his experiences.
Last fall, the students in the Welding II program competed in a contest where they created holiday-themed projects that demonstrated their welding skills. The projects were displayed and were part of a raffle during a Welding Open House that brought together John Deere and the Area Career Center. Grady’s project is an amazing piece of welding skill and artwork that shows Christmas trees, candy canes, a gingerbread house, a snowman, and John Deere “reindeer”.
Rockridge learned in early March that Ms. Carol Lewis from John Deere “won” the raffle by making a $1,500 donation to Rockridge High School for its Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program.
Mrs. Lewis noted that her career at John Deere spans 35+ years with her current position as Vice President, Labor Relations & Total Rewards. She shared that she and her family are all Rockridge alumni. Her mother, Donna Mack, was a JH English Teacher at Rockridge for many years. She asked that her donation to the CTE Program be made In Memory of her Parents, Francis & Donna Mack.
Rockridge High School made the decision to utilize the generous donation to benefit welding students at RHS. The funds were used to purchase a Welding Defects Kit. This will allow beginning welding students to compare their welds with examples that show the various correct techniques they are learning. This makes the project a “Full Circle” moment for our CTE program.
We wish to congratulate Grady on his success in the ACC Welding Program and wish him all the best with the John Deere Internship. We thank Mrs. Carol Lewis for her generous donation in memory of her parents and are hopeful this entire project will enhance the growth of our vocational programs at Rockridge High School!

It isn't too late to make a donation for this year's Academic Awards Scholarships!
