Congratulations to Reagan Smiley for being nominated for the September Student of the month award! Reagan is an 8th grade student here at Rockridge Junior High. She is the daughter of Jenifer Franklin and Greg Smiley. She has a younger sister Delaney who also attends Rockridge Junior High. Outside of school Reagan likes to sing, dance, and do horseback riding. While at school she participates in several activities; including Choir, Band, and Scholastic Bowl. Her favorite subject in school is Science. Her favorite food to eat is salad and bruschetta. Her favorite movie is Hocus Pocus. When she has free time she likes to ride horses. Her favorite memory thus far this year is the first day of school because she got to meet all of the teachers. People would say that her top three qualities are that she is kind, caring, and humorous. She looks up to her parents because they are kind, smart, and understanding. One big accomplishment is that she has her certificate in CPR from the American Red Cross. Some day she would love to attend Columbia University. Her teacher's were asked to say a few words about Reagan and below are there responses: Mr.O her Choir teacher says "Reagan enters the room smiling and ready to work. She is a strong singer and has become one of the leaders of the choir." Mr. Walker her band teachers says "Reagan plays the clarinet in the junior high band. In addition to performing and working to be a leader in that band, she also participates with the high school band every chance she gets. She's a great example of a student who works to flourish in the environment they're in while also keeping an eye on the future at the same time. " Ms. Lopez her literature teacher says "Reagan is a friendly and polite young lady who participates willingly in class. She is a great role model for her peers. :)" Mrs. Bizarri her social studies teacher says "I have really enjoyed getting to know Reagan this year. I recognized her smiling face right off the bat since she had her locker right outside my door last year. :) So far she has shown interest in my subject area and has emailed me with questions on assignments. This shows me how much pride she takes in doing great work. She has been such a joy to have in my class so far this year and I can't wait to get to know her even better" Mr. Henry her math teacher says "Reagan has already demonstrated a terrific attitude in my class. She is willing to add to all class discussions and has shown a very hard work ethic."

The Rockridge School District sends a shout out and thank you to The Raymond Corporation for donating a digital CLEMEX Vision Lite microscope last night. The microscope provides an advanced image and analysis solution for student learning and student engagement. The digital microscope has the capability to measure grain size analysis, layer thickness, phase analysis and particle size analysis. The microscope will be utilized in science classrooms and the vocational areas and is aiding to transform the learning environment for our students. Pictured are Steve Frakes from Raymond Corp, Rockridge Vocational Director Jon Lehtola, Superintendent Marcus Bush, and Board President Tom Parchert.

The faculty and staff at Rockridge High School have selected Teresa Harris as the September Student of the Month. Ms. Harris is a senior at Rockridge High School and is the daughter of Emily & Robert Hartwick of Andalusia. Teresa reports that science teacher Mr. Wade is her favorite teacher. She is active on the Rockridge “Rockettes” Dance Team and the Girls’ Track Team, where she broke the school record in the Triple Jump last spring and was an IHSA State Meet Qualifier. Teresa also participates in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Gray Matters Collective, and the National Honor Society. Outside of school, she is active at the Turning Pointe Dance Studio and is employed at Whitey’s. She attends Milan Christian Church and reports that in her spare time she enjoys hanging out with friends and going to the gym. Teresa’s teachers had the following to say about her Student of the Month selection: - Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Brandee Neece stated, “This year, Teresa is on the leadership committee of the Rockridge Gray Matters Collective, but she has been an active member of this organization since its inception. She has been instrumental in attending events sponsored by the larger Gray Matters Collective so that she can mentor younger members of our leadership committee and the group as a whole. She is coordinator of our Instagram page and has been instrumental in personally inviting and reaching out to freshmen in the hopes of getting them to attend a meeting and then hopefully get involved in the greater organization. A goal of hers is to make the community involved in gaining an understanding as to what Gray Matters stands for and to bring awareness of the importance and value of good mental health for all ages. Her grades are excellent and she is a very eloquent speaker in the classroom. She is definitely a leader not only within her senior class, but within the Rockridge culture in general.” - Spanish Teacher Mrs. Joy Carter added, “Teresa has always been an outstanding student in Spanish. Besides being at the top of her class, she always has a great attitude and is eager to participate in class. I hope she continues studying Spanish in college because she is very talented!” - Science Teacher Mr. Joel Wade said, “Teresa Harris is a bright and thoughtful student. She consistently asks questions and ponders the reasons behind events in class. Teresa is a very polite and thoughtful student, always the first to greet someone.” - Girls’ Track Coach Ms. Jacqy Peterson said, “I love having her on the track team. We wouldn’t have had the same success without Teresa’s efforts on and off the field. She is a great teammate who encourages everyone and wants to compete and help the team in any manner possible.” - Math Teacher Mrs. Angela DeKeyrel stated, “I've had the pleasure of teaching Teresa for 3 consecutive years and she has a bubbly, friendly personality that lights up the room. She is currently in Calculus and does a great job.” - Dance Coach Mrs. Lauren Stegmiller added, “Teresa is a standout dancer on the Rockettes! She has been a pleasure to coach on the Rockridge Dance Team throughout her junior and senior year. Her high kicks are a site to see, as she is most definitely the highest kicker on the team. Not only is she a knockout dancer, but she is also a very talented tumbler. Teresa plays a major role as a leading senior on the Turning Pointe competitive dance team. Her dedication to the studio has proven that she can handle a coaching position at our studio, and she is a great role model for our younger tumblers. She is the last of the 4 Harris sisters to leave the studio this year as she graduates. Her friendship and sense of humor will be missed, but I am excited for her future. Congrats on earning student of the month, and keep on keeping on!!” Next year Teresa plans to attend the University of West Florida in Pensacola to major in accounting.
