These shoes will help support our program as well as individuals in developing nations like Ghana, Haiti and Cambodia. Connect with Mrs. Raes (mraes@rr300.org or 309-793-8040) to get them picked up, or you can drop them off at any Rockridge school. Remember, every pair that you collect helps. Congratulations Gryffyn Myers for being awarded the 7th grade student of the month award! She is the daughter of Missy and Kristen Myers. She has two older sisters Rori and Edy who attend Rockridge High School and an older brother, Vaughn who is a Rockridge graduate. Outside of school Gryffyn likes art, reading, snakes, rocks and sewing. While at school she participates in several activities; including Choir, Band, Speech Club, Art Club, and Student Council. Her favorite subject in school is Literature. Her favorite food to eat is quiche. Her favorite book is the Percy Jackson series. Her favorite memory thus far this year is eating lunch with her friends and making jokes. People would say that her top three qualities are that she is intelligent, kind, and witty. She looks up to her brother Vaughn because he is strong and confident. Gryffyn had the honor of participating in the Junior Olympics for javelin, shot put, and discus as well as being an All-State participant. In the future Gryffyn would like to pursue a career in Herpetology to study reptiles and amphibians. A few notes from her teachers: Mrs. Weller- “Gryffyn always has a smile on her face, and it brightens the room. Her character is admirable, to say the least! Gryffyn is always attentive in class, shares outstanding thoughts, and cares about her education. I appreciate Gryffyn's positive attitude, work ethic, compassion, and her willingness to lend a hand to anyone.” Mrs. Stanforth- “Gryffyn comes to class each day with such a positive attitude about learning new things! She volunteers often and has very insightful and caring things to share with her classmates. Another thing that I greatly admire about her is the respect she shows towards everyone here at school. In addition to all of these wonderful character traits, Gryffyn is a strong reader and writer in her language arts classes!” Mrs. Rowe- “Gryffyn is such a joy to have in class. She is an excellent student, but her character stands out even more. She is one of the most creative and unique students I have ever had and always stays true to herself. She does what is right at all times and is not influenced by others. I love the attention she gives in class. She is always watching me and listening, even if the lesson leans towards the boring side. The only negative thing I have to say about Gryffyn concerns her love for snakes. Snakes are gross, Gryffin. :) I can not wait to see what the future holds for her. Whatever it is, it will be amazing!” Mr. O- “Gryffyn is one of the hardest working students in the choir. She is always working hard to be the best singer she can be. She recently auditioned for the ILMEA Junior Treble Choir which involved recording herself singing three skills and two songs by herself with no piano! She comes in with a smile and brings a positive energy to the room when she enters!” Mr. Walker- “Gryffyn is an outstanding member of the 7th and 8th grade band. She is a constant force of positivity in the group. She plays the tuba, which can be a challenging instrument for a student that age to handle, but she's doing it very well. Gryffyn comes from a family with a long history of success in our music program, and I'm sure Gryffyn will be no exception to this.”

EDGINGTON, IL – The faculty and staff at Rockridge High School are please to announce Kylie Meyer has been selected as the October 2023 Student of the Month. Kylie is a senior at Rockridge HS and is the daughter of Kris and Kim Meyer of Andalusia. Kylie reports that Psychology with Mrs. Neece is her favorite class this semester. She is a cheerleader for all seasons here at Rockridge, including the Competitive Team. Kylie also runs track for the Rockets in the spring. In addition, Kylie is active in Show Choir, the Gray Matters Collective, National Honor Society, and Student Council. She helps with the YSF Cheer Team for community service outside of school. In her free time, Kylie says she likes to run and also likes to read. Kylie reports that she plans to attend Illinois State University next year to study nursing. Her teachers had the following things to say in support of her recognition as Student of the Month: - Spanish Teacher Mrs. Joy Carter said, “Kylie comes to class each day with a positive attitude and a desire to learn. She is very talented at Spanish and I hope she continues with it in college and beyond!” - Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Brandee Neece stated, “Kylie Meyer is a very dedicated and organized young lady. In the classroom, she carries herself with poise and self-control. Outside of the classroom, she is an established leader who guides others by her own example which is evident by all of the extracurricular activities that she is involved with. As one of the sponsors of the Rockridge Gray Matters Chapter, I appreciate Kylie's willingness to seek out the opinions of others and make everyone feel involved in the group's activities.” - HS Counselor Mrs. Anne Bohnsack added, “Kylie is a senior leader for the Gray Matters Collective. She is tireless- always willing to do whatever is needed to plan meetings and events, and does it with a smile on her face. Kylie is kind to all of those around her, and really cares about student mental health. She is a fantastic example for our younger members. Even though she is busy, she is always willing to lend a helping hand.” - Cheerleading Coach Joey Stanforth stated, “I have had the pleasure of coaching Kylie all four of her high school years in cheerleading. Not only is she a very talented and hard working athlete, she is an amazing teammate. She truly strives to listen, learn, and do her very best every day at practice. She is very dedicated to all of the responsibilities associated with being a cheerleader at Rockridge. Kylie is very kind and helpful towards the younger girls on our team. As a coach, I am so proud to have this amazing young lady on our team!” - English Teacher Mr. Jay Bizarri said, “What impresses me about Kylie and her approach to her academic work is that I always know she is present at the moment during instruction. She has other extra-curriculars and activities; she has other courses; and I'm sure she has other things in her life outside of school. Yet when she's in class, her body language, her attention, her attitude, her contributions....she just demonstrates that she is present and engaged and is going to get something out of the class that day. Because she invests her time and attention and energy each day, she's a joy to work with as a student.” - Math Teacher & NHS Adviser Mrs. Tami Clarke added, “I have had the honor of working with Kylie with the National Honor Society as she is the current president. She is very organized and conscientious when it comes to making sure things run smoothly. Kylie doesn't rest until she knows a task has been completed and she is a great asset to this senior class.”

Each year, Rockridge High School selects one outstanding senior to receive the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) award. Students are nominated by teachers, and voted on by the senior class. Nominees must demonstrate the qualities of Dependability, Leadership, Service & Patriotism in school and their community. This year’s DAR award winner is Hannah Graves. Those nominated for the DAR award at each school move onto a scholarship contest in the state. Good luck to Hannah as she competes against other students in the area in an attempt to earn some money for college!
